As per usual, I attended BEA in NYC at the Javits Center.
This is where the Book world comes together to meet and fraternize and you get to find out what genre will be hot fall the fall term. Publicists, editors, authors, publishers and the like get together and you network to get your blog out there.
Thankfully it was pushed back to May and not the June of the year before. There were many new and exciting books that were being featured and many authors who showed up that are rock stars in the book community. Also, a lot of first time self-published authors were invited to the big show. They seemed to have the biggest lines in the world.
BEA this year was a bit understated as in years past, the organizers are getting their act together and making it a bit easier to roam around and meet with potential contacts. Bloggers still seem to run the show, but there are lots of magazine, newspaper and bookstore employees to add to the mystique that is the literary world.
There are many breakout meetings in the lower level. Some of the most popular ones are the Editor's Buzz for different genres. Authors walk around meeting people and even stand in line to meet with another author if time prevails.
You may be asking why I don't have any pictures. I've taken pictures in times past and they've really never came out that well. As much as we love to see pictures of our favorite authors, taking them signing a book just really never thrilled me.
The fun of BEA is waiting in lines and meeting other similar like-minded people. We all gather for our love of books and the written word. Be it, YA, NA, MG, Adult, Sci-Fi, Fantasy.
I look forward to attending more BEAs in the years to come.
