TEMPEST
By Julie Cross
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Julie Cross' Debut novel TEMPEST (Hardcover; Thomas Dunne and Griffin Books; January 17, 2012; $17.99) is filled with time-travel adventure, romance, and a twisting plot that will keep readers turning the pages.  Foreign rights for Tempest have sold in sixteen countries and Summit Entertainment, the company behind the Twilight movies, pre-empted the film rights.  The first in an epic trilogy, Tempest heralds a powerful new voice in young adult literature.

Tempest begins in 2009.  Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy: he’s in college, has a girlfriend, and… the ability to travel back through time. But it’s not like time-travel in the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there are no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors, like in Back to the Future.  Jackson’s best friend Adam is the only one who knows about this ability, and with his brilliant mind, helps Jackson to control it and understand it.

But one day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but it is not like his previous time jumps. He’s now stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.  He pieces together clues about his mysterious father, and what really happened to the mother he barely knew.  Jackson also befriends the 2007 Holly, protects her, and falls in love with her all over again.  But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler… or kill him.

TEMPEST is The Time Traveler’s Wife meets The Bourne Identity, and is sure to please teen and adult readers alike.

  1. I love stories about time travel-- especially if it has more of a thriller/action sort of atmosphere to it. I liked The Time Traveler's Wife, but it was kind of draggy and boring at times. Love the trailer too :)
