BEA

This is just going to be a mini-update of what happened at BEA.  First of all, it was crazy.  There were so many people there and there was very limited space.  I got to meet some great Bloggers, Publicists, Authors (Richelle Mead, Eric Luper, Heather Brewer, Bree Despain, Chelsea Campbell, who rocked my world).  The autographing area was just nuts and trying to find where the lines started or ended could be difficult to navigate.

I got some great books and I'm even donating a few to my library!  (I'm not mentioning which one because I want to surprise her!).

Some of the biggest titles there:

Clockwork Angel
The Enemy
Fat Vampire
Delirium
Sapphique

I got to meet Carol, Kristi, Cat, Kenda, Shanyn, Erica and Annie!  And I got to visit with old friends, Tiff E, Lenore, Mitali, Gail, Alea, and Sharon.

I'll post a more in depth post when I'm not so tired.

Stuff from Library

I've been a bad blogger of late.  Just not really into it.  I think a lot has to do because I hate my template and I still can't find anything that represents me.  Perhaps that is my problem.  I don't know what represents me!!!! Well any way, the past couple of weeks have been really good at the library.  I should tell you what I've picked up.

The Underneath, Kathi Appelt
The Thief, Megan Whalen Turner
Lessons from a Dead Girl, Jo Knowles

Geek High, Piper Banks

The Agency, YS Lee

Aurelia, Anne Osterlund

I'm very excited to read all of these books!  I read Anne Osterlund's Academy 7 and it was fantastic.  And I know she's writing a sequel to Aurelia so very excited to read this.  First up tho' is The Thief.  I've heard numerous things about this series and it's all been good!  Lots of good reading to do before BEA!!!

What are you thoughts on my library choices?

BEA

Hi Folks!  I'm attending BEA this year again and I will be trying to live blog during it.  But basically what I'm trying to do is set up something up for the bloggers, authors, friends to do after BEA end on Thursday night.  I was thinking of heading to a bar or something we're we could have drinks.  I'll have to do my research and find out a place that is big enough to hold us if enough people contact me.

Please remember you must be over 21 and have a valid ID to get into the bars in NYC.

So if you're interested in meeting up on Thursday, May 27, around 7/7.30/8pm let me know.  I wish I knew Google Docs so I could create a nice thingy for you to fill out, but I'm not that handy yet;)

Please post here with your e-mail address if you're interested in meeting up on Thursday, May 27 and please bring a friend if you can!  If anyone knows of a place that is perfect for this type of setting just let me know too!

The Dark Divine, Bree Despain

The Dark Divine, Bree Despain

Reading Level:             Young Adult
Hardcover:                     372 pages
Publisher:                       EgmontUSA  12/22/09
Bookmarks:                   4

I went into this book not really knowing what it was about, which made it much more interesting to me.  I think when you don't read reviews or look too much into a book, you can really enjoy it!

Grace Divine is the daughter of the local pastor and the family has always been considered do-gooders.  But one fateful night, three years ago, something happened to Grace's older brother Jude and the family foster son, Daniel.  Soon after Daniel disappears and live continues on for the Divines.

But now, Daniel is back and he wants Grace.  Jude refuses to discuss what happened that night, and Daniel just manages to show up at the most convenient times.

I really enjoyed this story.  Like I said above, I went in not knowing what the plot was so I was surprised when it was finally revealed to me.  I will try to remain spoiler free.  There are a ton of paranormal books out there in the young adult genre, but I found this one to be different because of the spiritual aspect to it.  There were definite touches on certain stories in the Bible that haven't been used quite the same way.

The dynamic between Grace and Daniel was pitch perfect.  Grace has always had a bit of a crush on him, but when he shows up to the school, looking emaciated and tortured, it just opens her heart even more.  Definite swoon-worthy material.  I definitely look forward to the sequel.

*This was a library copy that I borrowed.

My friend and follower

Laura had a bouncing baby boy last Tuesday.  His name is Owen James and he was 8lbs 6oz and was 20 inches long.  I've seen pics of him on Facebook and he is quite the cutie!  He is welcomed by his two older sisters and a brother.  Yep, Owen is number 4!!!!

Congrats to Laura and her family.  Now get my books back to me! :)

What I've been reading

I've decided to take a break from young adult books and have been reading some adult titles that I've been wanting to read lately.  I just finished LOVER MINE, J.R. Ward and was pleasantly surprised with this one.  I've been invested with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series for a few years.  I love the way the vampires are in this series and enjoy the slayers as well (aka Lessers).  These books are definitely not for the younger crowd and I would say that college age and older are perfect for these books.  My favorite character by far is Butch O' Neal (a former Boston cop) and every time he shows up in the books, I literally squee.  Yep, I'm nutsos:) Ward went back to the old school of the older books and really pulled out a winner with this one.

The book I am currently reading now is another J. R. Ward book, COVET, A Novel of Fallen Angels.  It's a bit slower than the BDB books.  I'm about 200 pages in and hope that it will speed up a bit.  But I'm invested and will finish it.  I like that it takes place in the same world as BDB, Caldwell, NY and you definitely see some overlapping of the BDB characters.  Trez, who is a confidante of Rehvenge in BDB plays a significant role in this series.  Plus we see on the perimeter some Brothers.  I'd like to see where this story end.

SOME GIRLS BITE, Chloe Neill.  I've heard lovely things about this series and it's been highly recommended by fellow blogger, Carol(ina).  I originally tried to get this from the library, but there were so many holds on it!  So I bought it.  (ED. NOTE: All books have been purchased by me and I have not received any adult books for review.  If I review them here, it is of my own volition).  I really can't wait to dive into this one.  I'm excited.

The last book to read is the latest Mercy Thompson book, SILVER BORNE, Patricia Briggs.  I've been reading this series for a couple of years now and I'm pleasantly pleased with it.  It's not as erotic as the BDB books, but Mercy's relationship with the alpha male, Adam is nicely played out.  We're up to book 5 already!  I'm interested to see where she goes with this story and how this Coyote can tame the big bad wolf!   Plus the covers in this series are very cool.  Mercy is kick ass heroine!
