Catching Fire, Suzanne Collins
I read "The Hunger Games" I believe back in December of last year, so I was a bit confused at the beginning of "Catching Fire". I couldn't remember the 'berry' incident that starts out the book with the President coming to meet with Katniss and pretty much telling her or forcing her to behave during the ceremonies that are coming up. Once I looked back at "The Hunger Games" it came to me and I was able to remember certain things.
Suzanne Collins starts the story off with a bang and doesn't let up for over 300 pages! The twists and turns of this book are breathtaking. I literally held my breath during some scenes. I like Katniss. She may not be the type of girl I'm used to, but she's family oriented. Trying to do everything for everyone and for her it sucks to be her. She knows that Gale loves her. She knows that Peeta loves her and she's torn into bits and pieces. When she gets wind of an uprising in the various districts, she realizes that she is the cause of it and even though she's done everything perfectly to the letter, she knows it's unavoidable. Now the president wants all former winners of the Hunger Games back in the arena. To fight to the death yet again. Can Katniss use her love for Peeta again, will she ruin everything with Gale? What about her family?
The second chapter in this series in fantastic. And no I'm not saying that because I'm being paid to, I really enjoyed the tension in this book. The writing is solid, the storyline moves at a fast clip that you really have to savor each word because before you know it, the book is over and your left feeling, what now? The world that Collins creates is scary, dystopic and eerily creepy. The supporting casts have emerged in their own right and the book doesn't bogged down with empty characters. You really feel for them. This book will be released on September 1, 2009 and I have a feeling it will fly off the shelves. The book is that good.
